Privacy Policy
This page explains what information Satellite Area Calculator (this website) collects, how it is used, and which third-party services are involved. The short version: we don't ask you for personal information, we don't run a user database, and the only data we collect is what's needed to keep the site running and improve it.
Information we collect
We do not require you to register, sign in, or submit any personal information to use the calculator. We do not collect names, email addresses, payment details, or property records.
The following data is collected automatically when you visit the site:
- Standard log data — your IP address, browser type, operating system, referring URL, and the pages you visit. This is collected by our hosting provider and analytics provider.
- Usage analytics — anonymized event data such as which pages were viewed, button clicks, and approximate session length. Collected via Google Analytics.
- Map and search interactions — when you use the address search, the address text is sent to Google's Geocoding API to translate it into coordinates. Searches are not stored on our servers.
- AI assistant input — if you use the natural-language chat, the text you type is sent to our backend and forwarded to OpenAI's API to interpret the command. Conversations are not retained.
Cookies and similar technologies
The site uses a small number of cookies, primarily for analytics. You can disable cookies in your browser settings without affecting the core functionality of the calculator. Drawing shapes, running measurements, and converting units do not depend on cookies.
Third-party services
Satellite Area Calculator relies on several third parties to function. Each has its own privacy policy:
- Google Maps Platform — provides the satellite imagery, map tiles, geocoding, and spherical geometry calculations. (Google Privacy Policy)

- OpenAI — used by the AI assistant feature to interpret natural-language commands. Only the text you type into the assistant is sent. (OpenAI Privacy Policy)
- OpenStreetMap / Nominatim — used as a fallback geocoder by the AI assistant when interpreting place names. (OSM Privacy Policy)
- Hosting and CDN — the site is hosted on a commercial hosting provider that may collect access logs.
Advertising
The site may display advertising. If advertising is enabled, ad providers may use cookies to personalize ads based on your browsing history. You can opt out of personalized advertising via Google Ad Settings and via aboutads.info.
Data retention
Shapes you draw on the map exist only in your browser session and are not saved to any server. Closing the page discards them. Server-side, we retain standard access logs for up to 30 days for operational and security purposes.
Your rights (GDPR, CCPA)
Because we don't operate a user account system, there is no personal profile to access, export, or delete. If you have a question about data we may have logged that is associated with your IP address, contact us through the contact page and we'll respond within a reasonable timeframe.
Children's privacy
The site is not directed to children under 13 and does not knowingly collect information from them.
Changes to this policy
If this policy changes substantively, we'll update the "last updated" date at the top of this page and, where possible, surface a notice on the site.
