Privacy Policy
This page explains what information Satellite Area Calculator (this website) collects and how it is used. The short version: you can measure area and distance without an account and without giving us any personal information. If you choose to create an account, we store only what's needed to save your work and provide the features you use.
Using the site without an account
Measuring areas and distances requires no sign-up. When you use the site, some data is collected automatically:
- Standard log data — IP address, browser type, operating system, referring URL, and pages visited, collected by our hosting and analytics providers.
- Usage analytics — anonymized events such as page views, clicks, and approximate session length (via Google Analytics).
- Address searches — text you type into the address search is sent to a mapping provider to convert it into coordinates. Searches aren't stored on our servers.
- AI assistant input — text you type into the chat assistant is processed to interpret your request. Conversations aren't retained.
Accounts and sign-in
Creating an account is optional and free. You can sign in with a third-party identity provider (such as Google, X, or Microsoft) or with an email and password. When you sign in, we receive and store basic profile information to create and identify your account, which may include your name, email address (if your provider shares one), profile image, and a provider account identifier or username.
We never see or store your password for a third-party provider — that authentication is handled by the provider. Email/password sign-ins are handled by our authentication provider, and passwords are stored only in hashed form by that provider, never in plain text.
Content you create
If you're signed in, we store the content you choose to save so you can return to it, including:
- Maps and shapes you save, along with any notes and share links
- Saved views (map locations you bookmark)
- The text prompts you enter for image or video generation, and the images and videos that are generated
This content is associated with your account. Shared maps are accessible to anyone who has the share link. You can delete your saved maps, views, and generated media from your dashboard at any time.
Contact form
If you message us through the contact form, we receive the name, email address, and message you submit so we can respond and improve the site.
Cookies and local storage
The site uses a small number of cookies and browser storage — primarily for analytics and to keep you signed in. Core measurement features don't depend on them.
Third-party services
To operate the site we rely on trusted third-party service providers, each governed by its own privacy and security terms, for things such as:
- Mapping and imagery — satellite imagery, map tiles, and address lookups (Google Maps Platform). (Google Privacy Policy)
- Analytics — anonymous traffic and usage statistics (Google Analytics).
- The AI assistant — interpreting natural-language requests you type.
- Authentication — third-party identity providers (such as Google, X, and Microsoft) used only to sign you in.
- Hosting, storage, and content generation — providers that host the service, store your account and saved content, and generate images and video from your prompts.
We share with these providers only the data needed to deliver the relevant feature, and we do not sell your personal information.
Advertising
The site may display advertising. If enabled, ad providers may use cookies to personalize ads. You can opt out via Google Ad Settings and aboutads.info.
Data retention
Shapes you draw without saving exist only in your browser session and are discarded when you close the page. Saved content tied to your account is kept until you delete it or your account. Standard access logs are retained for up to 30 days for operational and security purposes.
Your rights (GDPR, CCPA)
You can review and delete your saved maps, views, and generated media from your dashboard. To delete your account and associated personal data entirely, or to request a copy of your data, contact us via the contact page and we'll respond within a reasonable timeframe.
Children's privacy
The site is not directed to children under 13 and does not knowingly collect information from them.
Changes to this policy
If this policy changes substantively, we'll update the "last updated" date above and, where possible, surface a notice on the site.
